Our Climate Our Health is a Global Climate and Health Alliance coordinated campaign to put health at the heart of the Paris climate change negotiations.

Climate change is a real threat to human health. Our aim is to raise awareness of the health impacts of climate change and the actions that can be taken to protect both people and planet. We will ensure health is at the heart of the Paris climate agreement. Join us now and act for people and planet. Our objectives are:

To raise awareness, empower and mobilize the health profession.
To ensure policy makers and the wider public understand the ways in which climate change could affect their health.
To prove that action on climate change often results in benefits for human health and, likewise, action to improve human health often results in reduced greenhouse gas emissions.
To take this message to the COP21 climate change negotiations in Paris and demand a deal that protects and promotes public health.

Quotations

“The more climate change advances, the heavier the cost of its terrible consequences will be. So climate protection and the safeguarding of living standards must be seen as a pair, because they belong together.”

Angela Merkel, Chancellor of Germany

“Climate change is one of the greatest threats to human health. The health sector must be fully integrated in current global debate and action on climate change.”

Dr Mukesh Haikerwal, Former President of Australian Medical Association

“Climate change is no longer a distant threat. Its effects are felt today, and its costs can be measured in human lives.”

Barak Obama, US President

“Health and climate change are no longer seen as different issues and are almost seen as synonymous because there is more evidence and data out there that link.”

Dr Carlos Dora, Co-ordinator, WHO Department of Public Health

“Sustainable development is the pathway to the future we want for all. It offers a framework to generate economic growth, achieve social justice, exercise environmental stewardship and strengthen governance.”

Ban Ki-moon , UN Secretary-General

“Climate change is one of the greatest challenges of our time, and will affect, in profoundly adverse ways, some of the most fundamental determinants of health: food, air, water.”

Dr Margaret Chan,Director-General of the WHO

“Sustainable development is the pathway to the future we want for all. It offers a framework to generate economic growth, achieve social justice, exercise environmental stewardship and strengthen governance.”

Ban Ki-moon, UN Secretary-General

“The evidence is overwhelming: climate change endangers human health. Solutions exist and we need to act decisively to change this trajectory.”

Dr Margaret Chan, Director-General of the WHO

“Climate change threatens our fragile existence on this planet.”

Dr Jim Kim, President of the World Bank

“Climate change, and all of its dire consequences for health, should be at centre-stage, right now, whenever talk turns to the future of human civilizations. After all, that’s what’s at stake.”
